The tofu is braised in a sweet- savory-spicy sauce and cooked with caramelized onion and garlic, making it juicy, a little spicy, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Lot of people say they aren't usually fans of tofu but loved this crispy, spicy tofu. If you're one of those people, give this tofu a try, you might be surprised!
Tofu - 500 Grams
Seasoning for tofu
Salt- 1 tsp
Pepper - 1 Tsp
Garlic Powder - 1 Tsp
For the Sauce
Soy Sauce - 1 Tbsp
Ketchup - 2 Tbsps
Sugar - 1 Tsp
Salt - 1 Tsp
Paprika or red chili powder - 1 Tsp
Water - 3 Tbsps
Oil - 1 Tsp
Onion - 1 Small
Garlic - 4 medium cloves
Additional water if required
Air fried Tofu
Step 1 : Take 500 grams of tofu, and slice it in any preferred shape and size. To season it, add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder. You can add any fav spices of your choice. Coat the tofu in the seasoning from all the sides, rub it gently.
Step 2 : Air fry the tofu, you can bake or fry them as well
Add a little oil to the tray, brush it evenly and then add the tofu pieces to it
Air fry the tofu for 10 mins over 180 C. If you want the tofu to be more crispy cook upto 15-16 mins but I like it this way so it can absorb the sauces.
Step 3 : To prepare the sauce, add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 2 tablespoon of ketchup, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of red chili or paprika, followed by 3 tablespoons of water and mix well, make sure there are no lumps, you can add more water if you want
Step 4 : Heat a pan and add 1 teaspoon of oil, then add 1 small finely chopped onion, cook till it’s golden brown. Make sure to stir it in between, to make sure the onion doesn’t get burnt or stick to the pan.
Then add 4 cloves of finely chopped garlic and cook over low heat for 2 mins
Add the sauce to the pan and add some more water if you prefer more gravy and let it cook till the oil starts to separate. You can also add cornstarch slurry to make the gravy more thicker but it’s optional
Add the chives and sesame seeds followed by the cooked tofu, and mix well. Make sure that the tofu is completely coated in the sauce
Season it with some more spring onion greens or chives, sesame seeds and serve
It's a perfect dish for rice, noodles or any Indian bread.
This is so quick to prepare, truly scrumptious and healthy too.
